The Central South University Scholarship 2026-2027 is a fully funded scholarship for students from countries not in China. The scholarships are available to study in an undergraduate degree, masters degree or PhD degree. The scholarship will cover tuition fees, on campus accommodation, medical insurance policy or benefit, and stipend for your term of study.

Scholarship Details
The Central South University Scholarship will provide:
- Full scholarship: Coverage of tuition costs, on-campus accommodation, medical insurance fees, and monthly stipend for living costs (CNY 3000 for a master student and CNY 3500 for a doctoral student).
- Partial scholarship: Covers the tuition costs, along with on-campus accommodation and medical insurance fees.
Requirements for Central South University Scholarship
In order to be eligible for the Chinese Scholarship Program, a candidate must meet all of the following conditions:
- Language Requirements : Applicants applying for Chinese taught programs will be required to obtain a minimum of a HSK4 score of 220 for science and engineering programs, and 260 for arts, social science and medical programs (for Bachelor of Chinese Language and Literature a HSK5 score of 200 is needed). If the student cannot meet the required Chinese level, they will be required to take a one year Chinese language preparatory program until they meet the previously stated HSK level before beginning their programs. Applicants applying for the English taught programs will be required to obtain a minimum of a 6 IELTS or 85 TOEFL score for qualification to begin their program.
Applicants will be exempt from language qualification if:
a) The applicants first language or the official language of the country is Chinese or English.
b) The applicant has completed a degree whose teaching language is Chinese or English. - Eligible Countries: All world countries
- Excellent Non-Chinese citizens, with good health and no criminal records.
- Applicants for the Bachelor’s degree with high school diploma (or equivalent) ages 18-25; for Master’s degree with Bachelor’s diploma (or equivalent) ages 18-35; for Doctor’s degree with Master’s diploma (or equivalent) ages 18-40; under age applicants who are 16 years and older must have an appropriate guardian in China.
- Applicants for the graduate program must have a strong academic standing and a capacity for innovative research.
How to Apply for Central South University Scholarship?
Please follow the following application instructions to apply for Central South University Scholarship:
- Create an account on the university website and start filling the form.
- Submit following required application materials to the university:
- Photocopy of the Passport with one year availability.
- A photocopy of the physical examination record must be submitted in .pdf form. The applicant must be examined according to the requirements of the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners. If the document is incomplete it will be deemed invalid. The date of examination must be after October 1, 2024.
- Photocopy of highest degree certificate or notarized Chinese/English371 certificate. If the applicant is a student, a pre-graduation certificate from the school will be required
- A stamped transcript of the highest degree diploma or notarized Charlesdrawn/English367 transcript.
- Non-criminal record or Chinese/English367 transcript of record. The date of issue must be after October 1, 2024.
- HSK Transcript for Chinese-taught programs and IELTS\TOEFL for English taught programsand some other documents to prove your linguistic competence.
- Two separate recommendation letters from professors or associate professors with complete contact information. The date on the signature must be after October 1, 2024. (for graduate applicants only)
- A study plan of a minimum of 800 words. Please clarify details including background research, method, content, and significance, etc. (for graduate applicants).
- Published papers or other supportive materials, e.g. Acceptance Letter Format .doc(only for graduate applicants).
- The School of International Education will conduct a first check to verify the applicant’s identity, language skills, physical and mental conditions, etc. Upon successful completion of the first check, please pay the application fee of RMB 500 via CSU’s unified payment platform, per the email you received (WeChat, Alipay, and UnionPay accepted);
Please complete the application fee payment within two weeks, otherwise, the application cannot continue. If you fail to pass the initial review, NO NEED to pay the application fee. - Academic Review: The academic review will be carried out by the relevant school for applicants to thoroughly assess their academic background, ability to conduct scientific research, or potential for innovation.
- Result Release: After considering the application and review situation, the final results of admission will be released via admission email. THE FINAL OFFER OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT IS SUBJECT TO THE ADMISSION EMAIL RECEIVED! In addition to that, an admission notice, and visa form will be provided. Application status will also be scheduled to be communicated through the CSU China International Student Service System. Be sure to check your inbox in the Application System and email inbox on time.
- Annual Assessment: All scholarship students will undergo a scholarship annual assessment for their academic and daily performance in the previous academic year for the onward continuance of the scholarship. Otherwise, the scholarship will be revoked.
Note :
(a) The aforementioned materials will be provided in either English or Chinese. Any materials provided in different languages must be notarized in Chinese or English.
(b) An applicant that (both parents or one are Chinese nationals settled abroad) is born with a foreign nationality applying as a foreign student must have a foreign passport or nationality certificate valid for more than four years and has lived abroad (with no date conditions) for more than two of the last four years (from the last day of April in the year of admission-one year is 9 months of actual residence in a year). The basis for living abroad is by entry and exit stamps. It is required to provide proof of renunciation of Chinese nationality.
(c) The application fees are not refundable and any materials provided will not be returned regardless of admission results, and it is the fact most of the prospective candidates will be enrolled based on the application materials. The final financial support is the admission email; however, NOT the system interface or the one you apply. Please check the email that you will receive.
(d) The winter recess is scheduled for January 26 to February 27, 2025, and to compensate the review process will be postponed to the winter recess. The initial review time is roughly 2-4 weeks, while the period of academic review depend on each relevant school.
